Independent Film Festival of Chennai
The Chennai International Independent Film Festival will also serve as a platform to realize all of Tamil Studio’s goodwill initiatives. This Film Festival will conduct Master Classes, and guide independent filmmakers in the entire process of film making ranging from pitching, production, distribution and participation in film festivals across the world.
The highlight of this film festival would be the pitching opportunity for a filmmaker. Individuals, students, or assistant directors can present their short versions of promising films by writing just a few scenes of it and shooting a showreel or trailer out of it to present during the festival.
Accomplished directors and film technicians from all over India and abroad would assess the entrants for their screenwriting and production skills and choose the best among them.
The Chennai International Independent Film Festival will then assist the chosen filmmakers to film their screenplay, screen the films and participate in reputed film festivals around the world.
Every year, producers of independent television and online content from India and abroad would be invited to the festival, who would listen to pitches from the chosen filmmakers
Apart from the above, under a special category, the festival will also help filmmakers pitch and find avenues to screen short budget films with good scripts and high production values which have been struggling to get released.
Also, a list of unreleased films will also be selected by an artistes panel and screened separately in a bid to create a market for them.
The Chennai International Independent Film Festival also supports documentaries and short films by serving as a platform for their recognition and promotion.
There is also a separate category to pitch for documentary films at the festival.
Aspiring documentary makers can also pitch their ideas and supporting documents for making documentaries on a variety of socially-relevant and nationally important topics ranging across cultural, scientific, medical, and political issues and themes.
The production and distribution committee would also choose the most relevant film ideas and help the makers finish their works by offering the necessary funding. The festival will also help these films enter internationally renowned film festivals and television channels of repute.
The Chennai International Independent Film Festival will also screen short films and award the best productions with monetary prizes. The best of short film entries would be made an anthology and screened during the festival and beyond to reach the masses. Though the festival would support and fund the best short film directors and producers, there won’t be any pitching session for short films as we have for feature-length films and documentaries.
The Chennai International Independent Film Festival will eventually work to stage films on seven screens for seven days, thus serving as a massive platform for identifying and celebrating independent filmmakers.
The festival would host master classes, introductory sessions on the latest technologies in the field. There would also be panel discussions featuring international artistes and directors, and pitching sessions for documentaries and independent feature films of all genres.
We can confidently say that there are rarely any film festivals such as ours that encompass the entire gamut of filmmaking. The motive behind instituting the Chennai International Independent Film Festival is, therefore, to bring all of these related events under a single roof.
Tamil Studio requests you to extend your hands and contribute to make these endeavours a grand success. All donations are welcome! Thank you for supporting independent cinema.
